Hail, you stargazing fiends of the Black Metal Archives. Sean here, and tonight we’re plunging headlong into the cosmic abyss with Omega Infinity’s latest astral assault, The Anticurrent. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill black metal crypt crawl-this is a journey through the birth, death, and endless void of existence itself, all conjured by the transcontinental duo of Xenoyr (Ne Obliviscaris) on vocals and Tentakel P. (Todtgelichter) handling the entire instrumental cosmos.

Right out of the gate, Omega Infinity hurl you into the void with shimmering synths and guitars that churn like collapsing stars. Xenoyr’s vocals are pure event horizon-cold, inhuman, and suffocating, echoing through a production that’s both sharp and cavernous. The album’s atmosphere is relentless: industrial percussion, swirling electronics, and blackened riffs all swirl together, evoking the infinite cold between galaxies.
What really sets The Anticurrent apart is its fearless experimentation and the way it harnesses guest vocalists to expand its universe. Adrienne Cowan (Seven Spires) injects a volatile energy into “Iron Age,” her dynamic range pushing the track into apocalyptic territory. “Banish Us From Eden” stands out with its haunting piano and electronic undertones, weaving a fragile melody through the chaos. Lindsay Schoolcraft (ex-Cradle of Filth) brings spectral beauty to “Death Rays,” while András Nagy (Sear Bliss) and Marta J. Braun (Todtgelichter) help the band reimagine Sear Bliss’s “Night Journey” and Emperor’s “Ye Entrancemperium” with cosmic flair.
The album’s flow is as bleak as it is beautiful. Moments of astral wonder-like the fleeting hope in “To The Stars”-are quickly swallowed by annihilating blasts and suffocating darkness. The twelve-minute closer, “Voices From the End of Time,” is a sprawling odyssey of layered shrieks, spoken word, and piano-a fitting soundtrack for the universe’s dying breath.
Production-wise, Omega Infinity nails the balance between clarity and overwhelming gravity. Every blastbeat, synth flourish, and vocal shriek is given room to breathe, but the overall effect is one of cosmic suffocation-a true sonic black hole.
So what’s the verdict? The Anticurrent is a blackened monolith-dense, experimental, and utterly cosmic. Omega Infinity have outdone themselves, crafting a record that’ll drag you through creation, destruction, and the endless dark in between. If you’re ready to be swallowed by the void, this is your ticket to oblivion.
