Having already reviewed Join The Night by Blood Howl in its single form, it’s now time for me to cast my eye over the full length, album experience and, to be quite honest with you, I was almost tempted to just copy and paste the original piece I did on it and call it a day.
This isn’t just a case of me being lazy – though there is always the element of that where my ass is concerened – but simply because everything I initially said about the two track release carries over perfectly for the full Join The Night experience.
Does it still have an uplifiting feeling that oozes out of the pours of each track? Check.
Does it still not fuck about with some biblically heavy riffs, drum parts, and vocal screaming when it needs to? Double Check.
And does Blood Howl still manage to cross the streams, taking a handful of genres and creating something quite special? Check, check, and triple fucking check.
This is a masterclass in being able to take influences from wherever you find them and mix them together superbly in a musical stew so tasty and filling that you won’t need to eat from any other table for at least a week.
Join The Night offers perfectly serene moments of introspection, blended seamlessly with unbridled moments of rage, anger, and hurt. It looks inwardly at itself before exposing it’s bare wounds to you, as if by allowing you to see them in their most raw and tortured state, then it knows it is seen. It is, in parts, a dream of exquisite ecstacy that turns into a paralysing nightmare within the blink of an eye.
It is a record that defies the expectations of the listener by making them a key element to the story as it unfolds, weaving it’s intricate musical magic around the listener and drawing them deep inside its lucid, yet darkened soundscape.
In Join The Night, Blood Howl have given the world something that speaks directly to its soul.
