Vocalist Matt Turner comments:

“This song has been tucked away in a quiet corner for a few years. It began as a tongue-in-cheek reaction to my reluctant career in hospitality—a fate that I never consciously chose. The chorus grew out of that frustration. But as I started writing the full lyrics, my thoughts drifted toward what it really means to live life behind bars.

To end up imprisoned, you must have committed what society deems among the gravest offenses—acts so severe that you’re effectively exiled from reality. In some countries, death is the ultimate punishment; yet one could argue that a lifetime of confinement is just as harsh, if not worse. That led me to question who truly deserves such punishment, and who, conversely, escapes it.

I was thinking about the case of Luigi Magnione, for instance, who murdered Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthCare. While I don’t condone Magnione’s actions, I can’t ignore the moral hypocrisy in a system where profiting from illness—knowingly causing untold suffering and death—can be considered legitimate business practice. Shouldn’t that, too, be treated as a crime worthy of lifelong imprisonment?

The same applies to those who orchestrate genocide or wage illegal wars—individuals responsible for atrocities on a massive scale. In my view, they deserve to face the same fate. We live in a world run by psychopaths.

So the song evolved into a kind of fantasy: an imagined world where those who commit moral crimes, even under the guise of power or legitimacy, are finally held accountable. It became a reflection on justice, hypocrisy, and the unsettling imbalance between the two.”
