“Who are we? Where are we going? What are we doing? These questions sound simple, yet they open up abysses. Human beings—thinking, feeling, doubting creatures—are caught between themselves and the world, between the inner and the outer, between meaning and emptiness. A procedure of the individual in the grand scheme of things – that sounds sober, almost technical. But in this sobriety lies a truth: we are part of a process that transcends us.”
