Every once in a while, a record comes along that doesn’t politely ask for your attention — it storms in, smashes all your furniture, pisses in your beer, and dares you to do something about it. That’s Dethroned & Devoured by Outergods in a nutshell. A Blackened Death/Extreme Metal sonic assault that hits like prime Mike Tyson — fists flying, jaw-shattering, and utterly impossible to ignore.

From the very first riff, Outergods set the tone: this isn’t going to be an easy listen. This is brutality personified. The guitars sound like they’ve been sharpened into weapons, the drums roll and blast with military precision, and the vocals? Christ, the vocals are less “sung” than they are vomited up like bile. It’s pure extremity, and it feels like the band are actively trying to suffocate you under the sheer weight of their sound. But here’s the thing: despite how chaotic and overwhelming this record feels, there’s method to the madness.
Outergods understand atmosphere.
Beneath the sheer violence of it all lies an oppressive, suffocating mood that makes Dethroned & Devoured more than just “extreme for the sake of it.” It’s immersive in the most unpleasant way possible — like being trapped in a collapsing cave with only fire and noise for company. You don’t just hear this record, you let it kick 10 bales of shit out of you, and you come out the other side battered, breathless, and oddly grateful for the punishment.
What makes this album stand out in an already crowded extreme metal landscape is the balance between raw aggression and actual songwriting. Too many bands just stack blast beats on top of distorted riffs and call it a day. Outergods, though, have structure. The songs twist and turn in ways that keep you hooked, whether it’s a sudden tempo shift, a groove-laden passage that locks in before slamming you back into chaos, or a riff that worms its way into your brain amidst the carnage. There’s variety here — not in a way that undermines the violence, but in a way that keeps it fresh and unpredictable.

Production-wise, Dethroned & Devoured is spot on. It’s thick, heavy, and oppressive without being a total mess. The guitars are dense but clear enough to let you hear the riffs slicing through, the drums sound like artillery fire, and the vocals sit in the mix like a monstrous presence looming over the battlefield. It’s the kind of production that feels like it’s actively pushing you down into the dirt, and honestly, that’s exactly what this kind of record demands.
Lyrically, I couldn’t tell you much — and frankly, it doesn’t matter. With vocals this feral, the words themselves are almost irrelevant. What matters is the delivery, and on that front Outergods nail it. Every scream and roar sounds like it’s been dragged out of the pit of some unholy nightmare. You don’t need to read the lyric sheet to know what this album is about: pure, unfiltered destruction.
At the end of the day, Dethroned & Devoured is exactly what its title suggests. It doesn’t just want to be heard — it wants to consume you, chew you up, and spit you out as a hollowed husk. Outergods aren’t here to make friends or win over the casual listener. They’re here to dominate, and with this record, they fucking do.
