Mob Mentality by Autumn Lies Buried Review

Mob Mentality by Autumn Lies Buried is an EP that stands as a rallying cry in these fucked up times. It is the kind of music to make you want to smash the system, written and performed by a band who encourage you to question everything and take nothing for granted. It is the soundtrack of a revolution we all so desperately need to free us from the shackles imposed upon us by a bumch of bastards. It is also… *checks notes*… ah, yes… Metal as fuck.

With Mob Mentality, Autumn Lies Buried have concocted a brew so adrenaline inducing that it is a far better wake up call than any amount of caffeine you may pour down your throat every morning. It is loud, raucous, and will have you wishing your kids were a little bit older so you wouldn’t feel bad about elbowing them in the head while you lead them in an impromptu moshpit.

What? I can’t be the only parent that does that?

From Strappado to Debt Of Silence, across the five tracks on offer, Autumn Lies Buried rail against the corrupt world, with brutal guitar work, one of the most violent rhythm sections I have ever heard, and vocal stylings that that range from so damn guttural they are living in the sewers with the rats and flushed crocodiles, to some of the smoothest flows I have heard since Chuck D.

There is a beauty to what Autumn Lies Buried do as well, as they mix so many different elements together that it is almost impossible to pin them down and pigeon hole them. They are an Extreme Metal band, of that there is no doubt, but they are just as comfortable within the realms of Hardcore, or Punk, or Black Metal, or whatever other genre they turn their hand to, and it is that which keeps Mob Mentality interesting.

It would’ve been easy for Autumn Lies Buried to just nail their colours to the Extreme Metal flag and been done with it, and if they had they would’ve still dropped a bloody good record, but by being willing to write what the hell they wanted, and in doing so staying true to themselves, Mob Mentality is more than a bloody good record, it is an excellent one.

Mob Mentality is available now via Exitus Stratagem Records.
