Lust Hag has been making a name for herself since debuting, and with good reason. This is unapologetic black metal fueled by societal hatred accompanied by only the most sultry synth. Irrevocably Drubbed is a spectral journey into the depths of depravity fueled by an unyielding feral nature. Originally released on May 9th through Fiadh Productions (one of the best purveyors of dark transmissions), this album is a must listen for all lovers of the genre.
Irrevocably Drubbed, the title track, starts us off with no mercy, just riffs. While accented with more melodic sections, this is pure, unadulterated evil, brutal and ceaseless, an incredible opening to the album. It seamlessly transitions into Rancid Manipulations, which showcases technical prowess without losing the raw edge that has become a signature sound for artist Eleanor Harper. Though it is following track Righteous Deception, which speaks to my preferences. It oozes with a primordial darkness that creeps into the spirit by way of hard-driving riffs and persistent drums. Normally, I would say this is my recommendation from this album, but I think taking the time for a full listen is more advantageous. From front to back it is a riotous romp of unfiltered aggression.
After a brief interlude, which gives momentary respite if only to amplify the eerie atmosphere, we enter the second half of the album. There is what I will equate to a minor tonal shift, a little bit heavier and quicker at the start, but nevertheless in theme with the rest of the work. Ravenous Feast in particular has more of a second-wave vibe, low production without being overly messy. It’s the quickest listen on the album (disregarding the interlude) but, arguably, makes the most use of that time. We close out with Humiliation Ritual, which is blasphemy of the highest order. It’s unapologetic in both composition and lyricism. Another example of how brutal this album is and how to do it right.
Irrevocably Drubbed is a one-woman riot wrapped in barbed wire and viscera. I cannot recommend enough for everyone to give it a listen and experience the ferocity themselves.
