Forgotten Dungeon of Ezenkag by Ka’Bael Review

Hello! It’s Risa again, this time coming at you from the dungeon with an EP from artist Ka’Bael of Orlando, Florida. The six-teack EP, Forgotten Dungeon of Ezenkag, released on January 30, 2025,.

Right off the bat here, I am obsessed with the organ. I love the use of an organ basically anywhere, but especially in this context. I feel like that instrument just immediately adds an incredible amount of depth to any piece. The first song is called An Old Cell with Cold Chains. It does feel cold. The organ paired with this light chime sound gives it a chilly feeling that pairs really well with the image of an old, damp cell.

Track 2, Gallow Choir of the Half-Heard, begins with slow brass horns paired with the organ and this gives the melody a very somber and melancholic feel. It almost makes me feel like I am witnessing an injustice of some kind that demands my full attention.

The next song, Wandering Echo of the Sad Shade, has a very pirate-esque sound. It has the strings and the organ, and whatever that sea shanty instrument it. It sounds like the lead up montage music while preparing for an epic sea faring battle. I am so very into it, honestly.

Forlorn Phantasms of the Unremembered begins slow and somber and then around the 2 minute mark, there is a quick increase in volume with the organ coming into center stage. It was very surprising and a little shocking at first, but it settled into a solid rhythm. This is also the longest track on the EP, clocking in at a whopping 9 minutes and 41 seconds.

Hymn for a Hanging is exactly what it sounds like. It is a little angrier in feel but just as somber and melancholic as you would expect for a hanging. (I am sure you are tired of seeing me talk about how much I love the organ so I won’t mention that anymore.)

The final track on this EP is Dead by Daybreak. It utilizes the deepest notes in the beginning than any other songs so far. It is the culmination of everything we have heard thus far with this creative work. Absolutely chilling.

This EP could easily be a go to for a table top role playing game, the background music to some dark fantasy video game, such as a Souls game for example, or even just to have on in the background while you meditate or do some homework. I am honestly excited to see where this artist goes next.
