Criminals by The Omen Machine

Criminals by The Omen Machine is;

…a little niche – most of the lyrics are about financial crime.”

At least, according to the man behind the project, the one only constant across the seven tracks on offer, Colin Busse.

He also explains that;

“This isn’t a live band, just a studio project. I thought it would be fun to work with a bunch of different people, and not constrain myself to any particular sound, so on the EP we have 2 different drummers, 5 different vocalists, and I think 4 guest guitar solos. New songs coming up will feature totally new people. There’s not one song that has the same line-up.”

Which is quite interesting because I listened to the EP before I read the press release and I would never have known that this wasn’t one cohesive, well-drilled unit that had honed their skills on the live circuit. Yeah, it’s safe to say, colour me impressed.

This is brutal Death Metal. Unreletning and unrepentant. I mean, after you get pass the opening calm before the storm that is United States vs. The Omen Machine, but once that is over, it’s hell for leather, heads down and see you at the finish lads, Death Metal, with screaming guitars, screaming vocals, and drumming that boggles the mind.

By the end of track one – Out Of Time – my mind had been blown by the gatling gun style of rhythm that had filled my ears and pounded into my brain like a pneumatic drill stuck on go fucking fast, and this insanity kept going throughout. This leads me to the conclusion that the drummers Mr. Busse had chosen to use on Criminals were all some form of hybrid Cthulhu monsters as there is no way, no fucking way, that any human being could perform the parts being performed here, unless they were crossbred with a fucking cephalopod.

Elsewhere the guitar work is exceptional, at times classical and at others designed to rip your throat out and feast on the delicious lifeblood that flows through it, while the vocals on offer, though differing in style as much as Death Metal vocals can, spit the hate and bile at the corrupt money-hungry bastards that are driving America – and the world – into the poor house.

For a studio project that has an ever evolving line up and takes aim at corrupt motherfuckers the world over, it safe to say that Criminals by The Omen Machine is quite impressive and it not only tackles the hard subjects the hard way, it also does it to the backdrop of some of the most brutal Death Metal you’ll have heard this year.

If you like your music to kick your teeth down your throat while making a statement, then Criminals by The Omen Machine should be right up your alley.
