The Order Of Things by Hexabrot Review

The Order Of Things by Hexabrot, their debut EP;

“…invites reflection on how humans adapt, reshape and ultimately transcend the boundaries established by the natural world. While nature operates according to strict rules, humanity seems to defy this precision, revolving around its deepest inclinations and drives, thus creating something not contemplated by the logic of order.”

It sees the Melodic Death Metal band continue to prove my theory that the Italian underground music scene is the most interesting one around at the moment, and brings songs to the fore that cover subjects such as Lucifier’s fall from grace, the destruction of Atlantis, and the Mutiny on The Bounty, all the under the guise of some very well played music and some very intriguing writting. And it’s… well… yeah, it’s alright.

I like the way it is hard and heavy in all the right places, as well as not being afraid to lean into the softer side of music, as Hexabrot do on Opal Light, a song about a mother and her estranged astray son which contains a very beautiful vocal performance by Giulia Rabozzi.

I think that, musically and vocally, it is very accomplished but… well, there had to be a but didn’t there… it just doesn’t grab me by the balls and shake the shit out of me.

Don’t get me wrong, I like this record, I really do, and I think that Hexabrot have a lot of room to grow as they progress along their chosen path, but I feel that The Order Of Things is just a stepping stone to help launch Hexabrot onto bigger and better things.

The Order Of Things is available now via Aenima Recordings.
