Welcome my fellow black metalheads, Sean here at the Black Metal Archives, and today I’m diving headfirst into the goddamn abyss with Nahasheol’s Serpens Abyssi. This unholy bastard dropped on November 3, 2023, through Wolves of Hades and Argento Records, and it’s a six-track gut-punch from this Dutch/Brazilian crew—Daniel Souza (vocals, guitars, the whole fucking arsenal), Krzysztof Klingbein (drums), and Vinicius Biz (bass). After their Kaaosoth EP tore my soul apart in 2022, this debut full-length is a Luciferian firestorm that’s got me screaming into the void. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s black metal that slithers right into your fucking veins—let’s rip it open.
“Arcanum Mortuus” hits like a sledgehammer to the chest, a filthy opening salvo that drags me straight to hell. Souza’s guitars are a razor-sharp whirlwind—tremolo riffs slicing through my skull with a venom that’s pure fucking evil—while his vocals claw out like some possessed motherfucker spitting curses at the heavens. Klingbein’s drums are a goddamn war machine, pounding my senses into dust, and Biz’s bass is the slithering serpent beneath, thick and nasty. This track’s a middle finger to the light, a sonic ritual that’s got me hooked from the first bloody note.
“The Aetheric Void” comes next, and holy shit, it’s a vortex of darkness I can’t escape. The guitars twist and snarl, dripping with malice, while a faint synth haze creeps in like fog over a corpse-strewn battlefield. Souza’s screams are a kick to the guts, raw and unhinged, and the rhythm section locks in like a death march I’d follow to my grave. It’s chaos with a pulse, and I’m fucking lost in it, reveling in every second of its abyssal pull.
“The Awakening” is where I lose my shit entirely—it’s a blazing sermon that lights my soul on fire. The guitars weave these hypnotic, pentatonic riffs that hit me like a revelation, and Klingbein’s drumming is a beast unleashed, shifting from blasts to fills that make my heart pound. Souza’s howling like Lucifer himself, and I’m right there with him, fists raised, ready to burn it all down. This track’s got a charisma that grabs me by the throat and doesn’t let go—pure black metal ecstasy.
“Bringer of Divine Ecstasy” is a fucking trip, a venomous dance that’s got me grinning like a madman. The guitars slink in with these seductive, melodic hooks, then explode into a wall of wrath that hits like a freight train. Souza’s vocals are a rollercoaster—barking, shrieking, dripping with this twisted, holy fervor—and the drums and bass are a goddamn powerhouse, shaking the earth beneath my feet. It’s dirty, it’s divine, and it’s got me headbanging ‘til my neck snaps.
“Mambah Maa” slithers up my spine, a poisonous beauty that’s got me entranced. The guitars strike with a hypnotic fury—melody twisted into menace—while Klingbein’s kit is a storm I’d ride into oblivion. Souza’s voice is this eerie, commanding force, pulling me deeper into the shadows, and I’m loving every fucking second of it. This track’s a serpent’s kiss, sinking its fangs into my soul and leaving me begging for more.
“Devan Thanatha” seals the deal, a colossal closer that fucking destroys me. The guitars build this towering, majestic inferno—riffs that roar like a dragon’s breath—while the rhythm section hits with a force that could crack the planet. Souza’s vocals are a spectral warlord, commanding the chaos, and I’m just sitting here, awestruck, as it all crashes down. It’s a brutal, beautiful end that leaves me wrecked and fucking alive.
Nahasheol’s sound on Serpens Abyssi is a goddamn revelation—Souza’s guitars are a fiery beast, shredding my sanity with riffs that bite and soar, while Biz’s bass is the dark heartbeat keeping it all alive. Klingbein’s drums are a relentless fucking storm, pounding with a life of their own, and those subtle synths sprinkle just enough cosmic dust to make it otherworldly. In the black metal pantheon, these bastards stand tall with the second-wave titans—Darkthrone’s icy wrath, Nightbringer’s occult venom—but they’ve got a Luciferian swagger that’s all their own. This album’s a vicious, soul-stirring ride that’s got me hooked, and it is available now on Bandcamp!—crank it loud, let it rip, and join me in the fucking abyss.
