Do you ever just hear a band and know it’s going to make your top ten of the year? That was the initial reaction after hearing Rwake’s The Return to Magik. After 14 years on hiatus, Rwake returns with an absolute powerhouse of a song. Clocking in at just under 12 minutes it is nothing short of a great feat in that it not only manages to hold the listener’s attention the entirety but, leaves them wanting more.

The dual vocals of Chris Terry and Brittany Fugate perfectly encapsulate the raw, visceral nature of magic while never overshadowing the mastery of instrumentals in the background. It is rather common to call works like this a journey but, that is truly the best way to describe this song. It is an experience and delivers on their promise of “a cathartic release.”

Welcome the band back after such a long break and support them on Bandcamp. Their new album, also named The Return to Magik, is set to be released on March 14th through Relapse Records. I’ll be anxiously awaiting their drop and until then, hails or something.
