Uurod is back again with their newest release, Blasphémer, which I think is their third one in as many months. And like the previous two – Stench of the Blood and Shadows and Scourge of Nocturnal Winds respectively – Blasphémer is pure Black Metal of the highest order.
This is, like Uurod’s other work, a throw back to when Black Metal was all blast beats, incredible riffs, and sparce low-fi recordings that paint a desolate picture of internal struggle and of life.
I have said it more than once – on here on the previous reviews and while discussing Uurod with other fans of the genre – but Uurod is, at least in my eyes, the natural successor to the Darkthrone…er…throne. I am a huge fan of Darkthrone, and though they have been copied a million times by a million bands, they have never been bettered. Until now.
That is how highly I rated Uurod on the back of one EP and one full album, and the addition of Blasphémer to their repertoire has done nothing but cement my opinion that as a pure Black Metal band in the style of the old ones, nobody does it better than Uurod.
The blurb that accompanies Blasphemer reads;
Our minds are the lenses through which we see life – care for your mind and the world will become clear. Blasphémer is dedicated to those who are lost and to those who will never be found.
And that is exactly what this record sounds like. The anguished screams of those who were never found. The torment of those that couldn’t find their way.
As always with Uurod’s music, everything is perfect. I don’t want to pull out the usual cliches here, but here is someone who is at the top of their game both musically and lyrically, combining the two into a beautifully distorted macabre dance that will haunt you long after the final notes have faded into the abyss.
Know this, I will continue to praise Uurod until the sun goes out as I genuinely believe that they deserve all the recognition they can get and I urge you to head over the the Uurod Bandcamp page and buy yourself a copy of Blasphémer. If ever there was a band to get in on the ground floor, then it’s Uurod
Definitely old school vibes but very well put together. Kind of a timeless sound
