The Coven of Lismoni by The Coven of Lismoni

The Coven of Lismoni’s self-titled three track debut release is a dark affair, full of witchcraft, powerful goddesses taken form, and a rallying cry to storm the gates of Heaven, kick the fucking doors in, and cast an impotent God from his throne. All of which is played out against the back drop of three songs, so different from each other that it is almost impossible to believe that the same group of people weote and recorded each one.

Opener, Les lamentations de la reine des enfers, is a haunting piece with a guitar that weeps like a ghost forever trapped between realms, as a piano plays a haunting refrain and choral voices float effortlessly in the air. This, in turn, is followed by The utterances of the goddess made manifest in the flesh, which is a track of Valkyrien effort, as the guitar no long cries but rages a blood red anger at the world, while pounding, and at times tribal, rhythms threaten to tear reality apart. All of this is just a breath-taking brutal canvas for the vocals to roar from Hell’s bowels, telling the story of a Goddess made flesh who is seeking the ultimate prize. The head of God. Finally, The Coven of Lismoni end with Rite of the rising shadows, which they state is;

The rite of the rising shadow of the coven of Lismoni.

It is another evocative piece of music that is married to perfection with its words, and it possesses you in such a way that you feel as if the eyes of The Coven of Lismoni are staring out of the darkest corners of your room, watching you.

This record isn’t a record, it is an experience. A journey where you feel as if you have only scratched the surface of what The Coven of Lismoni promises, musically and, dare I say it, spiritually.

You can see if it is a journey you want to take yourself over on The Coven of Lismoni’s Bandcamp Page. I, for one, will be along for the ride.

    The Coven of Lismoni’s debut is a must-listen for fans of dark ambient and cold, atmospheric riffs. The three tracks offer a blend of haunting and intense musical moments. The first track features chilling guitar lines, ethereal vocals, and a piano-driven backdrop that pulls you into a somber, immersive atmosphere. The second track amps up the energy with aggressive guitars and pounding rhythms, building a fierce intensity. The final track embraces a ritualistic, ambient feel with deep, layered soundscapes and a slow, methodical progression. If you’re into dark, cold riffs and atmospheric music, this release is definitely worth checking out.

    This is a really great release, it’s a mastered a little quiet but it sounds good. Montreal seems to be the home to a ton of great black metal bands.
